Homework: Sentence of the Week, SOW Quiz corrections
We started class off today by learning a new skill in Sentence of the Week. We learned what pronoun-antecedent agreement is! It sounds really confusing....but as we found out it really is quite simple. Ante- means before. The antecedent comes before the pronoun and usually is the subject of the sentence. Pronoun-antecedent agreement just means that the antecedent and the pronoun have to agree with each other in terms of both being singular (person/his or her) or both plural (people/they). We will practice this again tomorrow.
We also went over our sentence of the week quiz from last week, corrections are due tomorrow!!
We are officially done with our biography unit and are moving onto our argumentative unit. We spent a good deal of time emphasizing the difference between persuasive and argumentative. Persuasive writing is encouraging someone to do something or believe something. It includes opinions! Argumentative writing is when you present a side of an argument using ONLY facts. We started going through an article today but ran out of time, so we will continue this tomorrow.
