Jan 16, 2013 Compare/Contrast

Today in class we continued our read-aloud Chasing Lincoln's Killer.  The president is still alive, but it is not looking good....so needless to say our read-alouds have been very suspenseful!

After reading we practiced our note-taking and summarizing skills by taking Cornell notes on what we had just read.  We discussed what the two overarching main ideas were, and then filled in the details that supported that.  Finally, students wrote summaries of the notes they had taken.  Everyone did an EXCELLENT job on this!!

We circled back to our non-fiction unit and discussed the venn diagrams we had created yesterday in class.  Students discussed the differences and similarities between the articles they had read.  All of the articles read were about distracted driving and focused on how dangerous texting and driving were in particular.  We finished up class by watching a video about the dangers associated with texting and driving.

We will discuss this further tomorrow, and will begin working on inferences.
