Jan 4, 2013 Non-fiction Resources

Homework: Sentence of the Week, Text code non-fiction article

Today in class we practiced language arts skills on Compass Learning, went over Sentence of the Week, and text coded a non-fiction article.

The 3 sentences for this week were:

  1. The clouds hung in the sky.
  2. Bob sneezed.
  3. The rain pelted the park.
We focused this week on identifying the subject and verb of the sentences. Remember the subject is the who or the what that the sentence is about, and the verb is what the subject is doing. Your 3 re-written sentences are due Monday, with the subject and verb identified.

Following this activity we reviewed the text codes we learned about yesterday. Students were then to use the non-fiction website linked below to find a non-fiction article that interested them. Your homework for Monday is to:
  • Find a non-fiction article
  • Print it out
  • Read the article and fill it in with text codes while reading. Make sure you are able to explain why you used the text codes you did (you may need to add some notes to help yourself remember)
