Who is your hero?
That was the prompt for today's journal entry. It was the perfect lead in to the reading series we began in Comm Arts which is a book of biographies of heroes. The book focuses on practicing different reading strategies and improving skills. Today we partner read a story about Jackie Robinson. Some of the skills we focused on were reading the "Fact Checker" questions at the end of the story first to get our brain focused on those main ideas. We also looked at the pictures and captions before reading to make predictions and hypotheses about what the story may be about. Finally students used their reading strategies bookmarks while reading to expand their understanding of the story.
We finished class up by reading a few pages from Flipped, narrated by Mrs. Forsberg, as the chapter we began was from Juli's perspective....
