Homework: Complete the Reading Strategies Bookmark for Monday
We completed our first journal entry today! I was amazed at how much everyone had to say! Almost everyone had multiple pages written, WAY TO GO EVERYONE! The journal prompt today was How was your first week of school?
After we finished journaling we began discussing some different reading strategies that we could use while reading to help us better understand our books/texts. We passed out a big bookmark listing many of the most helpful strategies. We practiced using these with our read aloud book Flipped. We are up to chapter 3 which is back to Bryce's perspective. After reading a couple of pages we had the students break up into groups and discuss what we had read using the "Sentence Starters" on their reading strategy bookmark.
Finally, we had students create their own reading strategies bookmark that they will be able to take with them and keep in their DEAR books as a helpful reminder of what good readers do while reading.
Here's some great student examples!
Monday brings MAPS Testing during Comm Arts so get a good nights rest on Sunday! Have a great weekend, you deserve it!
